Manual install yields:

$ sudo /usr/bin/nspluginwrapper -v -v -i /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so
*** NSPlugin Viewer *** ERROR: libssl3.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64

It seems that the recent ia32-libs update doesn't contain libssl3.so anymore?

After fixing that:
$ sudo ln -s /lib32/libssl.so /usr/lib32/libssl3.so

I'm getting:
$ sudo /usr/bin/nspluginwrapper -v -v -i /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so
*** NSPlugin Viewer *** ERROR: libsmime3.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64

$ dpkg -L ia32-libs |grep smime3
/usr/lib32/libsmime3.so.1d
$ ls -l /usr/lib32/libsmime3.so.1d
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 12 2011-03-30 09:16 /usr/lib32/libsmime3.so.1d -> libsmime3.so

So the link is there, but the actual library is missing!

And indeed, going back to ia32-libs_20090808ubuntu9_amd64.deb fixes things:
