Using your test script, the window comes completely properly the first time. Could you confirm that your system is updated to the latest Natty packages and then try again?

I've noticed "sometimes" it comes up properly. I just did all of my updates, logged out and back in and it's still happening for me with that test script. I can also reproduce it with some more complex apps, but I figured it's better to provide a simple test case to reproduce.

The issue you're describing doesn't sound related to Unity. Could you log into a Gnome 2 session and see if this issue persists?

I just checked with a handful of environments from my GDM login window.

1) Ubuntu
This loads up a unity UI and reproduces the problem easily.

2) Ubuntu classic
This loads up a GNOME2 UI and reproduces the problem easily.

3) Ubuntu classic (no effects)
This loads up a GNOME2 UI and can not reproduce the problem.

this appears to be an issue with compiz as the wm. that's the common denominator between the sessions, and explains why classic without effects works.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running apport-collect <bug #> and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
