Bug Description

When I'm uploading a file with scp, ubuntu freezes always. Not just the x.org, the whole system, so I have to switch off the power switch. It's the same thing when I'm using bittorrent. Sometimes when I sign on on MSN, I got the same problem.

I guess this has something to do with the network-card driver. I'm using thr rtl8180 module, and my network card is a Topcom Skryracer PCI.

Because the whole system freeze, I'm not able to send any more debugging info.

Hi Basilio,

I also have this problem. I have a Ubuntu 7.10 system running on a Q6600 hardware using TP-Link Wireless (rtl8180 driver).

The problem is weird, it does NOT freeze on SSH, ONLY on SCP, but if you say it is because of large network traffic, it also does NOT freeze on large file transfer via firefox (I am talking about local network in both SCP and HTTP cases).

Please instruct on how we as user can provide more information to help debug this problem? I don't know if the problem is in SCP or in the network driver...

Thank you very much!

Shannon

I also have this problem.Upload crash. For example, if I throttle a file upload to 10 kB/s, it will continue to work indefinitely.

The log file '/var/log/messages' covering a period where the system froze would be useful in trying to find out what is going on. Thanks in advance.

This is still a problem in Ubuntu Gutsy, is the bug being looked into? I am running on a T3 on campus and have some large files to upload (as soon as it hits about 300 or so kb/s upload my whole system freezes). Another issue is that it freezes with ushare when I stream things to my xbox 360 because I can't really idle down the upload speed for that so after about 5-10 minutes streaming a larger file (I would say greter than 300 megs) the system completely crashes.

This bug report doesn't have any log files that would be useful in determining what is going on so I'm closing the bug.
