Bug Description

Binary package hint: ufraw

ufraw in Ubuntu 11.04 Natty is version 0.16, released 1.5 years ago, and lacks urgent support for newer cameras and crucial features, such as lensfun correction.

The updated lensfun package in is now Ubuntu 11.04 and the ufraw-0.18 package has been available in Debian for a while, so this is now possible.

The impact of not rebuilding and uploading is simply the significant lack of camera support, thus user game-over scenario. The risks of uploading the newer version are minimal, since there are no dependencies on ufraw; the last release just updated camera support, so is low-risk.

I can confirm that rebuilding from the updated package source [1], installing and usage are all as expected and requires no other system changes.

This looks reasonable to me, although we're a long way into the freeze. Subscribing ubuntu-release to get their take on the FFe.

Packaging wise the sync looks correct. It builds, runs, and the only Ubuntu diff we have is a couple of rebuilds, so a sync is appropriate.

The various binaries in ufraw: ufraw, ufraw-batch, and gimp-ufraw have a
number of rdepends. Also this is part of the Ubuntu Studio image.

This will have to wait until after Beta 1 at this point. After that if the
Ubuntu Studio developers concur, please go ahead.

Beta 1 just passed, so now is a good time for the Ubuntu Studio Developers to decide.

Any application etc that depends on ufraw, will also suffer the same lack of camera support (as DCRAW 8.98, Sep 2009 is used), so there should be strong consideration for the update, particularly since dcraw exposes a binary with a stable options, so it should be easy to check the rdepends.

The (excluding virtual and internal) rdepends are:
geeqie
geeqie-gps
fotoxx
imagemagick

Using the rebuild ufraw-0.18, I can confirm all these packages work as expected with RAW images. Also, I've been using the updated ufraw, ufraw-batch and GIMP plugin just fine, so there is nothing I can see holding this back, particularly given how far outdated the shipped version is...

Daniel, thanks for checking all the rdepends! Based on that this looks fine to me, so I synced 0.18 from Debian.
