Bug Description
Binary package hint: music-applet
It appears that music-applet is unable to control Rhythmbox. Regardless of whether Rhythmbox is running, music-applet just displays the icon offering to launch it.
I have checked so that Rhythmbox registers its d-bus services (using dbus-monitor), which it indeed does. An instance of music-applet which is compiled from pristine sources also manages to control Rhythmbox as it should (although it segfaults when trying to launch it when it actually isn't running instead), which leads me to believe that this is somehow an Ubuntu problem, rather than a problem with music-applet in itself. Sorry, this bug was in error, although only partly. It turned out that the bonobo- activation- server still remained from an older session, and therefore its DBUS_SESSION_ BUS_ADDRESS environment variable was wrong for the current session.
However, that does indicate a problem with bonobo- activation- server, but I guess that is something which ought to be reported upstream.
Unfortunately, I'm not very familiar with launchpad, and I cannot see a way for me to close this bug.
