Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

When hitting super key and starting a search in the dash, if no application is found I can't see what i have typed (the search box is blacked out along with everything else). Also happens if the dash hasn't loaded the application list, but this isn't that annoying since this only takes a second or two, and being on a USB stick, I would expect things like this. It is in the other hand very annoying in the first scenario because if i misspell something I cant see what i have typed wrong, and must start all over really carefully so i won't misspell anything.

Sorry this took so long, isn't using natty on a daily basis, but here is the screenshot. Since I run natty from an USB-stick the version I'm on is quite old and running now to get the screenshot i noticed that there are quite a lot of updates ready to install. Going to update now and will report the changes when it's done.

Updating didn't work either. The problem was still there.

I have the same problem. When I type and there is no result, the search field disappears. I have to use backspace to make it reappear. Capture attached. My version of Unity is 3.8.2. I have a ATI card with default radeon driver.

Installed beta 2, no fix here either, but found out that the application lens and the file lens has the expected behavior (that is showing the written text all the time), so this seems to only be a problem in the dash. Also found another, maybe related, bug in that the icons in the dash/applications lens/file lens don't show up before i hover over them with the mouse, when I choose the option to show more results. Seems the icons don't get drawn before they are in contact with the mouse pointer, when this option is chosen.

Here a couple of screenshots of what happens when I choose to "see more result" in both the Dash and in all the lenses. First a picture where I haven't moved the mouse at all, and then a picture where I have moved the mouse over some applications so they appear.
