The error in the log is:

Setting up plymouth (0.8.2-2ubuntu19) ...
update-initramfs: deferring update (trigger activated)
lzma: Encoder error: -2147467259
dpkg: error processing plymouth (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

To the best of my knowledge, nothing in plymouth uses lzma. I think this might be a dpkg bug instead.

affects: plymouth (Ubuntu) → dpkg (Ubuntu)

While dpkg can throw out errors about decompression, this can only happen during --unpack and not during --configure. The error message is clear, the problem lies in one of the programs executed by the the post-installation script. There's only update-initramfs in there so that must be the culprit. It's also coherent with "initrd=/casper/initrd.lz" which is lzma-compressed.

affects: dpkg (Ubuntu) → initramfs-tools (Ubuntu)
