Bug Description

After installing two kernel updates (10.4 Netbook), on ASUS 1001pxd, I have lost the internal microphone and the ability to use my external jack (microphone and headset also my ethernet port). I have tried to install the backports and that doesn't work. I have also tried reinstalling my alsa drivers.

The last time my system worked properly was with kernel 2.6.32-29. When I reboot to that kernel everything works OK. This seems to be a continuing problem. I get it fixed and the next kernel wipes it out.

This problem seems to effect a lot of people.

How to I fix this so that I don't have to spend so much time managing the software on my computer?

Thanks

Please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/AlsaInfo. Run the script
under the working kernel and the desired (non-working audio) kernels,
and upload each generated text file to this bug report clearly
labeled.

One of the things that really jumps out at me is:

Kernel -29

Driver version: 1.0.24
Library version: 1.0.22
Utilities version: 1.0.22

Kernel -30

Driver version: 1.0.21
Library version: 1.0.22
Utilities version: 1.0.22

Kernel -31

Driver version: 1.0.23
Library version: 1.0.22
Utilities version: 1.0.22

But I don't know if that has anything to do with the problem.

Thanks again for your help!
