Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include enough information.

Please include the following additional information, if you have not already done so (please pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command "uname -a" in your next response. It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command "dmesg > dmesg.log" and attach the resulting file "dmesg.log" to this bug report.
3. Please run the command "lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log" and attach the resulting file "lspci-vvnn.log" to this bug report.

For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-related bug reports is available here: <http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelProblems> Thanks!

I've had the same issue. Razer was working fine, then I went through the nvidia update problems with 2.6.17-10 to 11. Now when I boot the Razer is not recognised. If I unplug and replug, it does work. If I reboot it is not recognised. A PS/2 mouse on another port does work all the time.

Here also is the lspci. The dmesg shows the problem nicely at the very bottom.

Seems not to affect a lot of people and not disturbing too much the users (fixable by unpluging/pluging it again) --> priority low

Just want to add that having been searching forums for the past few days to resolve this, it appears to be a common problem with Razer Copperheads and some other USB mice.

After much experimentation and luck I have found that the mouse not working on boot is due to something happening on shutdown.

If you shutdown or reboot from terminal with these commands:

Shutdown Command: sudo shutdown -h now
Reboot command: sudo shutdown -r now

Then for me at least, on boot the mouse always works.

Note: You MUST enter your password, if a previous sudo session is still open then this will not work. It also does not work if you add yourself and the shutdown command to sudoers. I have purposely reduced the sudo session time to a minute to ensure that a previous session is not open when I try and shutdown or reboot.

Hope the above will work for some other people until an official fix is released.

Hello.
When you plug-in the mouse, it'll find two devices: a mouse and a keyboard. So, you have to unload keyboard module or if you can't do that, you have to disable USB keyboard in your kernel. After doing that, I have no more troubles with my copperhead.

It's a bug in the Razer Copperhead firmware. This happens in windows as well, solution is to upgrade firmware. Do NOT use the firmware included on the CD, it may damage the mouse. Good firmware can be found on razers website.

If you haven't got windows, how do you do a firmware update?

UPDATE - managed to flash to the latest firmware. Forgot to tick the checkbox, also disabled Resolution and samplerate in Xorg.

Just done a cold boot and mouse has worked!

Hardy Heron 8.04 was recently released. It would be helpful if you could test the new release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download . You should be able to test your bug using the LiveCD. Please let us know your results. Thanks.

Reading comments appear to be a firmware problem, and could be fixed upgrading the mouse firmware itself.
So I mark it as invalid.

I haven't upgraded the firmware in my Copperhead. The problem doesn't occur in Gutsy or Hardy. It got automagically fixed by an update at some point. So it is no longer an issue.

Launchpad Janitor (janitor) wrote : Kernel team bugs

Per a decision made by the Ubuntu Kernel Team, bugs will longer be assigned to the ubuntu-kernel-team in Launchpad as part of the bug triage process. The ubuntu-kernel-team is being unassigned from this bug report. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies for more information. Thanks.

I have a Razor Viper Ultimate (Model No: rc30-030501) and can confirm I am having this same issue. On startup the mouse doesn't move the cursor even though the lights are on, then when I unplug and plug in it works. It is a wireless mouse but I am using it plugged in on the laptop I am on. A "normal" USB mouse always works.
