Bug Description

Split this from bug #732358. I achieved some kind of fix, this details my progress:

I observed that synapse crashes/segfaults for me as soon as I press a number or letter key. Navigation in synapse with cursor keys still works as expected. I attached an apport bug report.

Inspired by bug #683696, I then disabled the directory search plugin. Now entering one letter was ok, but the crash happened as soon as I entered a second letter.

Noticing that the console messages mention Zeitgeist, I checked my install, and found out that zeitgeist, zeitgeist-core, zeitgeist-datahub, gnome-activity-journal were not installed. (That's because are not dependencies of synapse, some are recommends, but I don't install recommended packages by default on my system)
Now synapse works as expected, even with directory plugin activated, I only get these warnings in the console:

[11:19:19.572592 Warning] [ZeitgeistPlugin] Zeitgeist search failed: Remote Exception invoking org.gnome.zeitgeist.Index.Search() on /org/gnome/zeitgeist/index/activity at name org.gnome.zeitgeist.Engine: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod: Method "Search" with signature "s(xx)a(asaasay)uuu" on interface "org.gnome.zeitgeist.Index" doesn't exist

Thanks for report, fixed in trunk now, as you said a workaround is to enable Zeitgeist plugin, or disable Directory search and Hybrid search. (Affects 0.2.4 and 0.2.4.1)

OS is up to date.

Synapse crashes every time I press a key (any, even arrows).

I've tried disabling all plugins and synapse crashes anyway.

I've tried having only one plugin enabled at a time:
