unplayable opening splash screen stays foreground

Gnibbles is unplayable. After launch, the worm on a green background stays foreground and the playing field is concealed. By the sounds, it appears the game does run in the background.

This should have been fixed a while ago, and if not it's now fixed in upstream because I completely removed the splash screen. If you can still reproduce this on Ubuntu 12.04 or up, please add a comment saying so.
