Bug Description

"bzr branch" from a git repository could use some speedup. According to my measurements, it takes several minutes for hunderds to few thousands of revisions, but several hours for tens of thousands of revisions. By far the largest time consumer is the "fetching versions" phase, it takes about 85% of the time.

There are various bugs aobut performance already, so let's keep use this one about the fact that fetch gets slower for larger histories.
