I can't reproduce this. Do you have the unredirect_fullscreen_windows option
turned on or not?

It is running off and the default setting for this appears to be off in Feisty.

I can't reproduce this at all with current Feisty (nvidia card with proprietary drivers)

I also observe this; however, this is when running Feisty on an Intel GMA950 chipset.
This only appears to affect GL applications, such as Blender.
Dragging windows containing GL output also produces artifacts.

David

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Thanks in advance.

This is partially fixed in gutsy. We enable unredirect-fullscreen-windows and this fixes the issue if the fullscreen mode is equal size of the desktop screen resolution. A lot of games switch resolution though (e.g. ppracer) to a smaler size and this seems to make the detection for fullscreen windows fail.

The logic that detects fullscreen windows would have to be improved (src/paint.c currently) a lot to fix this issue.

Applications with fullscreen blinking:
- screensaver of Gutsy
- Firefox (mode F11)
- Eye GNOME image viewer

I believe this bug is fixed in gutsy. If you can reproduce this and have unredirect fullscreen windows enable please reopen. Marek, your bug is different (and already reported).

This was happening to me in Ubuntu Gutsy, and now in Ubuntu Hardy Beta (plus updates) as well. Easily reproduced here by for example running Blender (or any OpenGL application, like games through WINE) in fullscreen and having a System Monitor panel applet. When the application is in focus, I can see the System Monitor applet blinking in whenever its state is refreshed (other applets too, of course, like Network Manager's etc.).

Video card is Intel GMA-950 (945GM chipset) with the intel driver, tried with both EXA and XAA, PageFlip and TripleBuffering on and off to no avail.

Forgot to mention that turning the "Unredirect fullscreen windows" on or off does not solve this either.

It's due to bug 8732, fixed with DRI2. Unredirecting fullscreen windows avoids the problem, but isn't 100% reliable; in some of the cases where it isn't, the 'Toggle Redirect' action of the 'Extra WM Actions' works, but not always either for me. :}

still have this problem in Hardy 8.04, with all updates as of today. Video: Intel GM965. Turning on/off "Unredirect fullscreen windows" doesn't solve the problem.
