Bug Description

whenever I successfully start adept_manager via kdesu I get an 'authentication error' from auth.log

Nov 28 19:57:52 localhost sudo: dave : TTY=pts/7 ; PWD=/home/dave ; USER=root ; COMMAND=/usr/bin/kdesu_stub -
Nov 28 19:57:53 localhost sudo: dave : TTY=pts/7 ; PWD=/home/dave ; USER=root ; COMMAND=/usr/bin/kdesu_stub -
Nov 28 19:57:55 localhost sudo: (pam_unix) authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=pts/6 ruser= rhost= user=dave

Would not have noticed it but logcheck keeps flagging it and its too important a potential error to tell it to ignore !

Cheers

Dave

I get exactly the same log entry. The authentication dialogue box comes up, I type in my password, click okay, the adept window pops up and adept crashes (just after the status bar in adept_manager says "Building state information").

 kdesu -c adept_manager

gives output

kbuildsycoca running...
kapture::PkgSystem::PkgSystem()

and in auth.log:

Dec 24 23:16:20 localhost sudo: ramin : TTY=pts/8 ; PWD=/home/ramin ; USER=root ; COMMAND=/usr/bin/kdesu_stub -
Dec 24 23:16:20 localhost sudo: ramin : TTY=pts/8 ; PWD=/home/ramin ; USER=root ; COMMAND=/usr/bin/kdesu_stub -
Dec 24 23:16:22 localhost sudo: (pam_unix) authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=pts/7 ruser= rhost= user=ramin
Dec 24 23:17:01 localhost CRON[27974]: (pam_unix) session opened for user root by (uid=0)
Dec 24 23:17:01 localhost CRON[27974]: (pam_unix) session closed for user root

Whats interesting is that the log entry in auth.log appears every time kdesu adept_manager is run, no matter if it starts and works 100% or fails.

It seems to be a side effect of kdesu loggin ?

Do you get this error with kdesu with other applications?

Changed in adept:

OK so I get the error when I kdesu adept_manager, as adept_manager STARTS

I also get the same error consistently when I kdesu kleansweep BUT it is generated as kleensweep EXITS. I double checked this.

Reassigning to kdebase as it sounds like a kdesu bug.

Are you still experiencing this on Feisty?

I haven't experienced this on Feisty, although my system is now so unstable
that I have to reboot at least once a day. This would happen if the uptime
was a few days.

Yep.

kdesu adept_installer

Jun 5 15:49:51 localhost sudo: dave : TTY=pts/6 ; PWD=/home/dave
; USER=root ; COMMAND=/usr/bin/kdesu_stub -

close down adept_installer

Jun 5 15:49:53 localhost sudo: dave : TTY=pts/6 ; PWD=/home/dave
; USER=root ; COMMAND=/usr/bin/kdesu_stub -
Jun 5 15:50:09 localhost sudo: (pam_unix) authentication failure;
logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=pts/3 ruser= rhost= user=dave

So ... yep same problem in fiesty fawn.

Cheers
