start: Job failed to start
invoke-rc.d: initscript portmap, action "start" failed.

Has your /etc/init/portmap.conf job been modified? Please attach a copy of that file to this bug report.

as you ask I've attached portmap-boot file

No changes was maded by hand in portmap. System was upgraded from 10.10, may be this would be helpfull.
don't know exactly what job was aborted.

Alex,

You appear to have attached /etc/init.d/portmap and /etc/init.d/portmap-boot. These are not the files I need. Please attach /etc/init/portmap.conf.

Thanks, that looks normal. Please attach the files /etc/default/portmap and
/etc/portmap.conf also, or tell me if they aren't present.

Finally, please show the output of these commands:

$ ps aux | grep portmap
$ status portmap

Ok, so portmap is running and upstart knows about it. If you try to
configure the portmap package again (by running, e.g., 'dpkg --configure
-a'), does it succeed?

Running your command:
# dpkg --configure -a
Setting up portmap (6.0.0-2ubuntu5) ...
There are RPC services which were registered with the portmapper
before the configuration was changed.
You need to manually restart them in order for the changes to take effect.
Current registered services:
------------------------------------------------
    100024 1 udp 59244 status
    100024 1 tcp 32898 status
    100021 1 udp 34084 nlockmgr
    100021 3 udp 34084 nlockmgr
    100021 4 udp 34084 nlockmgr
    100021 1 tcp 54754 nlockmgr
    100021 3 tcp 54754 nlockmgr
    100021 4 tcp 54754 nlockmgr
------------------------------------------------

Restarting portmap:
#/etc/init.d/portmap restart
Rather than invoking init scripts through /etc/init.d, use the service(8)
utility, e.g. service portmap restart

Since the script you are attempting to invoke has been converted to an
Upstart job, you may also use the restart(8) utility, e.g. restart portmap
restart: Rejected send message, 1 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.56" (uid=1000 pid=3662 comm="restart portmap ") interface="com.ubuntu.Upstart0_6.Job" member="Restart" error name="(unset)" requested_reply=0 destination="com.ubuntu.Upstart" (uid=0 pid=1 comm="/sbin/init"))

Seems like it's ok. One note I was restart my PC after that problem was happend. May be this is why it's ok now?

Yes, that could explain it. Anyway, since the package works for you now, I'm closing this bug report.
