Thunderbird crashes when reading mail

For a few days, when I read messages in TB, it crashes. I haven't figured out exactly what causes this.

I use IMAP, but this is a very recent occurrence. It may be related to an update to 1.5.0.8 but I am unsure.

Thunderbird starts up correctly. Some times I can click and see a message or two, but eventually, I click on one message which crashes the application.

I downgraded to .7 and I am still seeing crashes. I can see the layout of my folders correctly. I can also see the message headers, but as soon as I click on one message, poof! TB crashes.

I am now going to try removing all my .msf files to see what happens.

Sigh, no change. At this point, I am having to consider changing email clients. :-(

Hmmm.. This problems seems to be deeper than TB. I also see crashes when I try to edit files in Nvu or Kompozer (a Nvu fork). Both of these applications used to work. So it seems like an update of one library at some point may be causing the problems I am seeing.
