xine-ui freezes until DNS resolution succeeds/fails/times out

Bug Description

Binary package hint: xine-ui

When DNS resolution times out due to network problems (annoyingly common where I live), xine-ui displays the blank startup screen and ignores all input until DNS resolution actually times out.
Unless I'm mistaken, doing a DNS resolution is not needed simply for playing a video/audio file.

I think I've seen this with Xine on Fedora. The UI does not update for a few seconds whenever you start to play a file. Then everything works fine.

It's definitely also happening in Debian (surprise, surprise...). However, I'm not convinced anymore, that it has to do with DNS resolution. OTOH I haven't gone to the trouble of trying to capture network traffic when this occurs, so I can't be certain.
