Bug Description

Binary package hint: evince

University E-books use ProtectedPDF Vitrium( http://www.protectedpdf.com/ ) DRM to protect the E-books that they give out. Currently the e-book is unlock-able, I assume because it needs to access and authenticate with a web-server. The fields are a user name and password form with an unlock button. I currently have to use Adobe PDF to use these E-books.
This is a feature request. I can provide further details in private.

Does this still occur on Ubuntu 12.04 beta 1?

@madbiologist I do not know if it still occurs in Ubuntu 12.04, has there been any actual progress towards a fix? I don't think there has been any fixes so I would bet it still is broken. If you can prove there has been an effort to try and fix it I will gladly download the latest snapshot of Ubuntu to try and see if it is resolved and if not I will provide any details.

@Jordan - bug #472538 (which is about opening a password-protected AES-V3 encrypted PDF) is now fixed for me in Ubuntu 12.04 beta 1, so I am hoping that it will fix your situation too.

Ubuntu 12.04 beta 2 is scheduled for release today, March 29th 2012.

This bug is still not fixed in 12.04 Beta 2, because on top of the encryption the document also requires the reader to take the entered user-name and password and authenticate with the University website. If Authentication succeeds then the website passes back the unlock key which then decrypts the protected PDF.
I actually think a small script gets executed in Adobe when the Unlock button is selected, but in Document Viewer nothing happens when the button is pressed.

Thanks for trying though and glad that progress is being made for Document Viewer, I use it for all of my other PDF's because it is so much faster and less of a memory hog.
