Bug Description

On servers with lots of memory, a restart to shrink the buffer pool can be too expensive, but it is needed when the server is swapping. Instead, mark some number of pages in the pool as unusable, so they get swapped out and never get swapped in. This feature needs to be dynamically configurable.

I don't see how it is related to http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=51849. That bug is about being able to change InnoDB data files configuration online, while this one is about buffer pool shrinking?

My apologies, I failed to read the other bug well. I have removed that bug from watch list as well.

Since the use case is to effectively shrink the buffer pool on a running server, let's consider this to be fixed by the 5.7 online buffer pool resize.
