Bug Description

Binary package hint: xsane

Epson CX5000 scanner from Wal-Mart, supported via the CX4800 driver.

Using Dapper on an i686.

Getting the scanner to work requires changing permissions on /dev/usblp0 and the scary-looking /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:07.2/usb1/1-1/1-1:1.1.

My intuition would be that the epson module was written for a generic Linux distribution like Debian, where it is assumed that you will perform administrative tasks as the root user.

Naturally, this requires tweaking on Ubuntu because root comes disabled.

Good luck in working out the kinks in this format.

Thanks

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release (Hardy Heron)? Thanks in advance.
