As for gsettings reset com.canonical.Unity.Launcher favorites, it's insufficient. It automatically adds launchers located on the desktop and clogs the Unity bar.

Hey Eric, this is done on purpose, the unity --reset is only here to clear your compiz configuration, not the launcher icons.
I'll be pleased to accept a patch with unity --reset-icons as well (but separated) to reset the gsettings launcher icons favorites.

You have to stamp the "migration key" to the current unity version if you don't want the migration tool to run at first unity startup.

(you can install dconf-editor to be able to see them easily)
