gnome-settings-daemon not shutting down on log out

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

It seems the gnome-settings-daemon is not operating correctly. I am not sure of its proper operation - however, if I log in, then log out, then log back in, my .xsession-errors reports:

You can only run one xsettings manager at a time; exiting

If I kill -9 the gnome-settings-daemon then run 'gnome-settings-daemon' all is well. (Desktop is restored to proper look and feel)

64 Bit Ubuntu Maverick. This behavior started recently. I am guessing that an update within the last two weeks introduced a regression.

thank you for your bug report, is there anything special in your configuration? do you use nfs drivers or something?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Oneiric Ocelot. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu.
