Bug Description

Binary package hint: usb-creator

I used this to create a couple of USB boot systems. That all went fine, but afterwards, for each one, I was left with a loopback device visible in the unity launcher and the disk utility. They're not mounted, and attempting to mount them fails (showing this in disk utility:

Error mounting: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/loop0,
       missing codepage or helper program, or other error
       (could this be the IDE device where you in fact use
       ide-scsi so that sr0 or sda or so is needed?)
       In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
       dmesg | tail or so
)

Looks like some cleanup wasn't done when usb-creator finished (it has been closed normally, the loop devices remain). And now there's no readily apparent way to make them go away. :-)

Unsurprisingly, but confirmed, the devices, and the icons in unity-launcher, persist after logging out and logging in again.

These are also visible by looking at the output of 'cat /etc/mtab':

/dev/loop0 /tmp/tmpl1gKA2 iso9660 ro 0 0
/dev/loop1 /tmp/tmpJMBvF6 iso9660 ro 0 0
/dev/loop2 /tmp/tmp9zIPVJ iso9660 ro 0 0

This is still an issue with the Quantal version (0.2.40ubuntu1) of usb-creator.
