Bug Description

Binary package hint: libmyth-0.20

Using the latest 8.30.3 fglrx drivers, mplayer with vo xv works fine but mythtv-frontend has blue tinge to all tv playback.

I believe the bug applies to all ATI RADEON X cards and myth needs to be recomplied with USE_ATI_PROPRIETARY_DRIVER_XVIDEO_HACK enabled. However, this may negatively effect other cards.

See: http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/browser/branches/release-0-20-fixes/mythtv/libs/libmythtv/videoout_xv.cpp#L67

Also you may need to modify this function to include the Xv adaptor: http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/browser/branches/release-0-20-fixes/mythtv/libs/libmythtv/videoout_xv.cpp#L3448

Not sure why this can't be a config setting (rather than a compile option).

according to the commit info (http://mythtv.org/pipermail/mythtv-commits/2006-August/020538.html) "this will make MythTV ignore the broken I420 format that the driver advertises and use the working YV12 format instead"

However, as a workaround I attempted to enable the "forceyv12" playback filter, but this does not seem to have had any effect.

Just to add that I have the exact same problem using a Radeon X1800XT with the 8.31.5 fglrx driver and MythTV 0.20 from the repos. Playback is fine in all media players except MythTV's internal player. Cheers.

I also have this issue using a Radeon X1600 with both the 8.31.5 and 8.32.5 fglrx drivers. Re-compiling as per the bug description fixed it. Thanks.

might be worth attaching working binaries

Attached my working libmyth-0.20.deb, works for me but YMMV

for reference of others I also held the package, so an upgrade doesnt replace it
echo 'libmyth-0.20 hold' | sudo dpkg --set-selections

Can you test this with Feisty to see if this issue still exists?

I have this issue with Feisty Fawn, using Ati's latest drivers: 8.34.8 and

All video playback is VERY BLUE with Totem(2.17.92) and Realplayer. (I believe these are both helix-based?)

However Mplayer and VLC does not suffer this problem!

This bug is only present on ATI driver 8.28 and later. 8.27 was the last known release that this didn't occur. The problem isn't actually mythtv, but rather how the radeon x### video card driver handles YV12 video through the Xv adapter. ATI has been notified about this bug, but there is no ETA with regards to when it will be resolved

the given workaround is successful, would it not be worth either changing the existing binary (presuming that it doesn't effect other cards) or, in the event that it does effect other cards, having a separate libmyth-fglrx for ati users

clearly ati won't fix anything for at least 2 years :)

Bug still exists in Feisty with ATI drivers 8.36.5, as this was originally filed against libmyth (mythtv) some notes for Feisty.
debian patch 05_11372.dpatch renames the Define to "#define USE_HACK_FOR_BROKEN_I420_SUPPORT_IN_DRIVER"

A few notes from the patch.
+// define the following for the ATI Proprietary driver and the Intel
+// IEGD driver for the i830M chipset (as of Oct 1st, 2006).

attached is the recompiled version with this enabled, YMMV, i seem to have more pixilation in Feisty, but that could be my settings,
however its still better than "blue" people :)

This package has become obsolete so we're closing out the bug report as WONTFIX.
Thanks for reporting it though!
