Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, the package installation error message that you have received is actually a failure with lzma and a generic one at that. The following steps may help resolve the issue. Please execute the following command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again as this may resolve your issue. We plan to make lzma errors more informative and that work is being tracked in bug 691985 which I will mark this a duplicate of.

removing duplicate status, this is no problem of a too vague error message.
It is an error which prevents installation. It still occurs in Mar15 live cd.

Perhaps the message from the Bug Bot is poorly worded however in the log file all we have is the following to go on:

update-initramfs: deferring update (trigger activated)
lzma: Encoder error: -2147467259
dpkg: error processing watershed (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

Which isn't helpful in determining in what went wrong with the package installation. The lzma error message -2147467259 can happen for a lot of reasons. Until lzma is made more informative there isn't much we can do with these bug reports and this is why I made it a duplicate of bug 691985.

One thing to further test this might be to manually try installing the downloaded watershed package and see what happens. For what its worth I tried recreating this by setting up a persistent USB stick with a Natty ISO from 20110413 and was unsuccessful - I was able to install watershed without a problem.

I just tried it with the beta 2 amd64 iso with persistent storage and installing lvm2 + watershed worked.
I used the same usb stick and the same method to create it (usb-creator-gtk)
perhaps the other two tries where somehow corrupted.
