Bug Description

Affects at least hugin 2011.0 on OS X 10.4 and 10.6:
Identify in the Preview tab of the Fast Preview window is always on, no matter if the Identify button is activated or not. This seems to affect the visibility of the Overview which is plain black and only flickers while I hover over the image numbers.
Maybe related with 'Photometrics' being enabled, sometimes when this is disabled the Overview is suddenly visible.

I confirm this bug (linux 64 bit), and attach a patch that fixes it on my computer.

With the new group dragging mode the identify feature is now always on.
With the patch you switch it off. It will only work if the first tab is activated.

With the patch in the drag tab you can not easily check which images you selected for dragging. This was the intention of the code modification.

would it be possible to implement a different kind of highlighting? using the same highlighting for both identify and images-dragging is confusing

During dragging there happen no highlighting.
What I wanted to say is that when you move the mouse in the drag mode over the image toggle buttons the corresponding image is highlighted. This should help to identify the images for the individual drag mode. So these 2 use case are the same function and should show the same behaviour.

I find the user interface confusing on a few counts.

1. "STICKY HIGHLIGHTING"

I would like to toggle on/off individual images to see if they fit. The red highlight overlay is an impediment.

I do:
* load a project
* open fast preview
* move/drag panel
* drag mode: normal
* activate/deactivate an image by clicking on its button

I see: the image has a red overlay when activated. To get rid of the red overlay I must move the mouse away and this disrupts the on/off process.

Suggested new behavior:
- highlight the image in red for a short period (try with one second)
- then remove the highlighting.

2. "HIGHLIGHT OF MOVABLE SELECTION"

I do:
* set drag mode to normal, individual
* activate/deactivate images

The only feedback I have about the selection are the checkboxes in the images buttons. It is difficult to keep track.

I would like to see:
* when I click inside the panorama to start a dragging movement, the selected images are highlighted
* during the movement, the selected images stay highlighted
* when I release the images into the new location, the highlighting "flashes" away

3. HIGHLIGHT COLORS

Currently highlighting of images is very colorful but color does not convey any additional information. I would like to see different highlighting colors for the different functions, i.e. leave the color scheme of the Identify function in the Preview tab as is and change the color scheme of the other/newer functions that need similar highlighting.

When I move the mouse over the image toggle button I see the corresponding image highlighted in the preview. So it's easy to keep track.

Wrong. If I hover over the images in the preview the colors add addtional information, especially if I hover over an area which is covered by different images. This is for me an addtional information.

that's not "easy to keep track" when there are more image toggle buttons than
fit the screen.

easy to keep track means for me: see them *all* at a glance without having to
look at the image toggle buttons and mapping them mentally to images on the
panosphere.

Semantics. For me what you describe is *basic* information from the fast
preview prior to the introduction of the recent functionalities.

*Additional information* would be, for example, whether I am using the
identify tool or the drag tool.
