batman-adv 0.2 (yes, this is outdated) is only intended to be used with linux 2.6.20-2.6.31 (see the CHANGELOG and README).

A "fix" for linux 2.6.36 is already available as 2010.1.0-1 (maybe earlier version work too, but they weren't tested against those kernels because this kernel wasn't available at the time this version was released)
