window controls have no effect on hover using compiz

using the expermental gallium3d driver in Natty. when running unity if you hover over the window controls of a non-maximized window there is no visible indication if the button is click able or not. this is a regression from Maverick since it worked fine there. please see the video.

I still have this problem. It's as though the entire window decorations are frozen. When using third party themes, the window controls have no effect for both active and inactive windows, as well as the titles do not change when supposed to, and only forcibly 'refresh' when you resize the window.

I also have this problem using the VirtualBox video driver (Ubuntu guest machine.) The title bars are frozen somehow. No prelight/hover effect on the buttons in gtk-window-decorator or emerald. If I disable compiz I can get a hover effect in metacity.
