pulseaudio points at 'dummy output' device, not beagle audio

Bug Description

on the ALIP desktop, pulseaudio appears not to detect the beagle audio device. It shows up fine in alsa:

# aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: omap3beagle [omap3beagle], device 0: TWL4030 twl4030-hifi-0 []
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

This may be related to bug #712025; in the logs, I see:
