Bug Description

Binary package hint: kde-guidance-powermanager

See the summary.

Both klaptopdaemon and the gnome cpu frequency applet allow the user to choose the specific kernel-space governor used to scale cpu frequency (ondemand, powersave, performance, conservative or userspace). It would be nice if the kubuntu power management applet had the same functionality.

CPU scaling governors are set via sysfs -> devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor

This is on to-do list and is waiting for proper CPU freq support in HAL. We cannot change sysfs directly as we would need "root" right to do so.

Required functionality is provided by HAL/dbus in Feisty and I have started with implementation of this feature.

This was committed to KDE svn and should be in next Feisty upload of kde-guidance. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FeistyFawn/Herd2/Kubuntu for example screenshots
