Bug Description

Binary package hint: banshee

If I try to rescan the music library, Banshee simply disappears (no crash report), the process terminates completely. It happens on Natty with my Dell Inspiron 1521 and it happens on Maverick with my HP desktop (P-IV). Banshee only completes the scan one in 20 times. It only completes the scan if the scan progress stays on screen. If the scan progress disappears somewhat later the scan stops (incomplete) or banshee itself disappears completely. Rhythmbox and Quod Libet scan the library without having the same problem. Since the programs simply terminates I can't give more information.

Please upload the ~/.config/banshee-1/log file after a crash. That should
contain important debugging information.

Which version of banshee do you use? Please also could you attach all the output information of "banshee --debug" in a separate file into your report?

Changed in banshee (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Low
status: New → Incomplete

Cannot reproduce the error for natty using --debug option, since natty displays the menu of the terminal or an empty menu only. So i cannot reload the music library, which looks like another bug.

Where can I find the debug log file?

Used versions for maverick, Banshee 1.8.0.0
                        for natty, Banshee 1.9.0.0
Cannot reproduce the error for natty using --debug option, since natty
displays the menu of the terminal or an empty menu only. So i cannot
reload the music library, which looks like another bug.

Where can I find the debug log file/info?

Why is the priority put too low? I have the same problem on two
different systems with two different versions of software and this bug
makes Banshee completely unusable.

I don't understand. What do you mean "displays the menu of the terminal"?

Banshee has been started using the terminal (banshee --debug),
afterwards the banshee menu does not appear in the top bar, even if you
click on the banshee window.

the only menu that appears in the top bar is the menu from the terminal,
that I used to start Banshee.

That sounds like an issue with Unity. Could you file a bug against that for the
issue with the terminal? A work-around to generate the log would be to use
Alt+F2, and run "banshee --debug --redirect-log" and uploading the
/home/<username>/.config/banshee-1/log after it crashes.

Don't forget to replace <username> with your own username.
