Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

HP Pavilion dm4t-1100
I5 460M CPU
Intel + ATI 5470HD

When running under Unity and I plugin a second monitor the screen is split in half horizontally. The top part shows parts of windows, the bottom shows normal picture but what should be on the top. If using Gnome, everything is fine.

I have xrandr script like this:
#!/bin/sh
xrandr --output LVDS1 --off --output VGA1 --mode 1680x1050 --pos 0x0 --rotate normal

This works perfectly in Gnome, but in Unity it switches to 1027x768

In fact, I was wrong. When using xrandr to switch to external screen, it is not wrong resolution, but the screen is split in half again only this time the upper part shows no garbage - only black background. The picture of the desktop is shown only in the lower left part of the screen is 1024x768 and it works OK without problems.

The mouse is able to move to the black parts on the top and right.

Yeah, I've reproduced this myself. It seems to not be X but rather the compiz/unity autoconfiguration logic for multi-head. I think it's a known issue. Bumping over to unity.
