Unity launcher flickering immediately after upgrade

Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04 and unity flickers. It's flickering and hiding constantly. Very difficult as a result to select anything on it. The launcher was also larger than my screen height

removed a couple of docked items so bar wasn't taller than screen. rebooted and no flickering anymore
