Bug Description
Trying to install Ubuntu Server 10.10, 64 bit on an AMD 64 bit system. Install proceeds fine until reaching the point where It is installing the base system. Window / progress bar appear for "Updating the list of available packages" and stops at 73%. I have tried install repeatedly, fails at same place.
Also fails with Server 10.04.2 LTS version at the same point.
Desktop version Amd 64 - 10.10 installs with no problem.
Tried multiple CD-roms and DVDs (burned slow, MD5's checked on downloads and disks etc.) - all failed at same point.
Eventually switched the Sony Optiarc Model AD-7170A DVD/CD-Rom combo drive with a standard cd-rom drive and was able to successfully install AMD 64 server version 10.10.
