Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.17

This is a kernel bug that has to do with allocation of dedicated memory of the Radeon Xpress 200M. When booting i get the following message:
[17179574.040000] PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 7 of bridge 0000:00:04.0
[17179574.040000] PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 8 of bridge 0000:00:04.0

I have included both my dmesg and lspci output. As you can see from my lspci output PCI bridge 0000:00:04.0 is my ATI Radeon Xpress 200M. I suspect that region 7 and 8 are the dedicated memory because i can not run my video card using the dedicated memory; i have to share my RAM. The problem is that my dedicated memory can not be allocated therefore used.

I can confirm that. I have the same messages in my dmesg.log . I am using an ACER Aspire 5102 laptop, with ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 . My Current kernel is linux-source-2.6.22 so I guess I will report it affects both, as an inherited problem

The Hardy Heron Alpha2 release will be coming out soon (around Dec 20). It will have an updated version of the kernel. It would be great if you could test with this new release and verify if this issue still exists. I'll be sure to update this report when Alpha2 is available. Thanks!

Hardy Heron Alpha2 was recently released. It contains an updated version of the kernel. You can download and try the new Hardy Heron Alpha2 release from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/alpha-2/ . You should be able to then test the new kernel via the LiveCD. If you can, please verify if this bug still exists or not and report back your results. General information regarding the release can also be found here: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/hardy/alpha2 . Thanks!
