Bug Description

Binary package hint: evince

If the folder path to a comic book archive file (.cbz at least) contains an open square-bracket ([), Document Viewer will not be able to open the file claiming the document only contains empty pages.

This is not the case if the file name contains the opening bracket.

The same file as zip (cbz and zip are the same files just using different extensions) opens as expected (Archive Manager).

Image files (.jpg for example) open as expected in the same folder path (Eye of Gnome).

Portable Document (.pdf) files open as expected in the same folder path (Document Viewer).

Can anyone confirm this behavior?

Can anyone direct me to the best place to file a bug report?

Thanks.

(I tested this on 9.10 (works properly) and 10.04 and 10.10 (broken as described above).)

I have noticed that a thumbnail is NOT created in these situations as well (under Nautilus). This suggests that the problem may run broader than Evince (though it could be two separate problems merely sharing a catalyst).

This behaviour is still present in Ubuntu 13.10. Is that expected?

The bug is not marked as closed, so it's not inexpected at least

Still broken in 14.04 and I can test forward if anyone would like that.

This is not fixed in Ubuntu 16.04 (fully up to date). When will this fix arrive?

This problem persists in Ubuntu 16.04 and beyond. I can provide screen shots if necessary. If the path or file contains an open bracket ([) the thumbnail will not generate and the file will not open.
