[i945gme] xorg crashes on heavy load

On Maverick when openning some applications the xorg crashes, it seems to be related to a high CPU or memory load. It could also be related to multimedia or audio, because it happens a lot when i was using flash video, virtualbox or skype, it also happens when i use chrome in pages with javascript (but no sound).

i forgot to say, that before, when i got a heavy load, the system just freezed for a second until it was able to continue
with the initial maverick packages it was not happening, so i ignore if it is a kernel or xorg update

I'm not sure it is related to the xserver-xorg-video-intel driver, as long as it was not happening with the fresh maverick install. I reverted the latest video driver to the original maverick one but let the xorg packages in the latest version and the issue still remains. So... why it didn't happened before? i'll readd xorg-server expecting for you to review it again.

I think this issue is heavy, you cannot afford your OS crashing and losing your data and valuable time two or three times each day

I found the problem fires with a heavy memory load, not a heavy CPU load, i tested the netbook with 2GB instead the default 1GB and the problem fired just once

i think the problem is related to the fact the intel chipset uses a dinamic amount of RAM from the RAM card and maybe at somepoint they cannot resolve how to deal with it... when RAM is full at RAM and Video lvl and both demand for more...

Thanks for testing maverick during its development period. Unfortunately it looks like this bug report didn't get attention during the maverick development period. But I see there's not been more comments on the bug since the release, which makes me wonder if this is still an issue for you?

If you've not seen this issue since maverick's release yourself, it may have been solved by kernel or X or other updates that occurred late in the release; if so, would you mind please closing the bug for us? If you no longer have the hardware needed to reproduce the problem, or otherwise feel the bug no longer needs tracked in Launchpad, you can set the status to 'Invalid'.

If you are able to re-test this against 11.04 Natty Narwhal (our current development focus) and find the issue still affects Natty, please also run 'apport-collect <bug-number>' while running natty, which will add fresh logs and debug data, and flag it for the Ubuntu-X development team to look at.
