gnome-open: doesn't handle .desktop files properly

Bug Description

If you run "gnome-open whatever.desktop" it opens gedit showing you the textual content of the .desktop file. I expected it to open the appropriate application for the .desktop file, exactly as if you'd double clicked on it in nautilus. For example "gnome-open /usr/share/applications/users.desktop" should run "users-admin" (as specified by the Exec line), and a .desktop file containing a "URL=http://blah" line should open a web browser.

Found in libgnome2-0 version 2.32.0-0ubuntu1 (from 10.10).

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Oneiric Ocelot. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
