Bug Description

I've looked everywhere for a fix to this, and I normally am the one to look for my own solutions but its been a few weeks, and a few reformats too much.

sometimes I notice but rarely the microphone if I tap it and look at the recording bar in the preferences, it works usually at a re-boot or at a log back in. I've tried several solutions. I just don't know the source of the problem
my sound card is CX20561 Hermosa. on a Hp pavilion dv26000 laptop.

I'm going to continue to search for a solution but, if anyone has a fix for this. that would absolutely amazing.

also I hope the bug can be located, since I'm not 100% sure its in the Alsa driver, but I think it is. I suppose it's a start.

my specs also 10.04 Ubuntu
sound card is CX20561
Hp pavilion dv26000 laptop.
AlsaMixer v1.0.22

anything else you need?
thank you

Hi Tatrasiel,
could you first specify whether you're having problems with an internal mic, external mic, docking station mic or all of them?

According to alsamixer, your internal mic is on, but the external mic and the docking station mic is off. You can correct that by executing "alsamixer" in a terminal, then move the sliders as necessary (press "M" to mute/unmute).

If that does not help, next step is to try https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/InstallingLinuxAlsaDriverModules .

I have unmuted everything to no avail. I also noticed a weird thing I also have Windows 7 and I installed Ubuntu in a VMware player to see that It recognizes my device! A odd thing though is the volume is a little quiet but I consider this a step in the right direction.
It also gives me options to choose which connector I want to use.
also instead of saying the default (don't remember what it actually says), it says ES1371 [AudioPCI-97]Analog Stereo.
My guess, and perhaps I'm wrong but since Windows has already recognized my device, Ubuntu can use it. I just wonder how we can force Ubuntu to recognize the device.

I notice that, sometimes when I'm AFK and I come back after a few hrs, I can tap the screen to find its working for a few seconds.
