I can confirm this issue in Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop. New game (CTRL+N) doesn't work too.

Steps to reproduce:
- Click New game or Net Game.
Expected result:
- The game begin.
Actual result:
- Show the players in the status bar, but the splash screen doesn't disappear.
