I have tried other recommendations from the forums but still the wireless is not working.
I have also tried the white and black list and still not working. And for the unnecessary question "is the wireless one?" Yes it is.

If I want to deal with so many issues I would of state with Windows in stead. Ubuntu used to be reliable but the last two releases are becoming very buggy.

I have also read that this is an old bug but hasn't been fixed. Any one with a recommendation? Hopefully a patch will be release to fix the issue for good.

Thank you.

It has worked for a while but for the last three day the wireless is being disconnected automatically and it doesn't matter what I tried several different recommendations and still not working. Even when the wireless network is enable still the wireless is disable through one of the programs.

It is very down side not to be able to use the wireless on the laptop.

That response was totally useless.

The recommended patch no only did not resolve the issue it also totally crashed my video driver by giving me a memory allocation conflict error.

The patch you sent was a "RC4 untested", how can you end an untested patch to anyone??? Do you work for Microsoft???
I am on my third week trying to resolved this particular issue. It would of take me 20 minutes to install Windows 7 in my system and get it up and working.

Please stop taking wild guesses and research the issue.

This is not a patch, is only the most advanced kernel.
I'm using it and it works.
If not working, during boot, hold down right shift and select to boot from the precedent kernel, then from synaptic remove the latest installed
Sorry

You cannot be serious about that sentence!!!!
If you look at the download link you sent me. The name indicate "RC4 untested"
What do you think it means??? It is a RELEASE CANDIDATE NUMBER 4 AND IT IS UNTESTED.

It means unpredicted results. If is would be an advanced kernel it will be fully functional and not half way.
You are sorry?? It screw my drivers and provided me with a second problem than when I originally started.

I would strongly recommend you to troubleshoot the issue before recommending a solution.
Again, Ubuntu is becoming very buggy and unreliable at this point.
sorry to say I will have to install windows in my system to get the mobility benefit once again in my laptop.

Thank you for all the information provided but at this point I cannot wait or try another halfway propose solution.

Hi Mel,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/ . If the issue remains, please run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 713480

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

I have looked at the site and the release version you are referring to seems not to be the normal release. If this is an RC, sorry to say that I will not install and RC on my systems as they are full of bugs. On the other hand that is totally unacceptable as this bug is a very old bug and so far all the fixes proposed are giving more problems than actually fixing the issue.

If there isn't a better recommendation such the bugging my current version, then I will keep my dual boot until 11.04 comes out and most likely no even then it will be fixed as this bugs has been around for a while as I have read on other forums.

Are getting any updates about this bug? I have installed Ubuntu latest release from scratch and I am standing correct about my previous post, the bug for the Atheros chip set hasn't been fixed neither has been assigned. Can some one provide me with an ETA for the bug fix? I am understand it will not be a simple fix as they code probably has several lines. I really like this distro but it seems I am being force to find one that works with my wireless chip set.

If more information is needed please provide what it needs to be done to get the info to the developers. Almost a year later and still not fix for this bug, please update.

It seem that Canonical is not so worry about getting a good product any more. With the lates releases of Ubuntu since 10.10 it seems the operating system is getting worst and worst. So, here is a good question for Canonical team: are you planning to drive everyone back to Windows???? Libre Office is really bad and many of the app that run in Linux are being ported to Windows, so what is the adventage that Linux is bringing to the table???? I will pay the $80 to get a stable operating system in stead of being deling with halfway done products. Sow far Windows 7 has been proved being more productive than *Ubuntu.
