Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Fresh wubi install of Wubi Natty Alpha 2.
Apply workaround to kickoff install by replacing wubildr file (see bug 693671).

The install dialog box starts: "Install" and the text "Verifying the installation"

Then an error box pops up entitled: "No root file system"
The error text is:
No root file system is defined
Please correct this from the partitioning menu
                                                           OK

Clicking OK repeats the process (loops back to the same error)

By clicking on the down arrow in the Install dialog, the text flashes by very fast: METAGET partman/text...
and ends with "error widget found for partman-target/no_root"
After waiting a while it changed later to:
859.076209] VFS: file-max limit 49 426 reached

Clicking on Shutdown icon on top right didn't work. Clicking CTRL-ALT-DLT pops up an message box with empty title, a red No Entry sign, lots of square boxes for each character in the message!?, and a button with two square boxes (font issue?).

CTRL+ALT+F1 gets a terminal
Any command entered gives the same response:
-bash: start_pipeline: pgrp pipe: too many open files in system
-bash: /bin/ls: Too many open files in system

CTRL+ALT+DEL from the terminal restarts the computer.

It doesn't go into a tight loop right away. I restarted the install in Verbose mode and dropped to a terminal CTRL-ALT-F2 when I got the first "No root file system is denied". I captured the logs and then hit CTRL-ALT-F7 back to GUI and hit OK to continue. Took logs again. Did that 4 times.

The last set of logs is attached. The repeating part that I was seeing was in /var/log/installer/debug: (just pasting the end bit here)

Just reran a Wubi install with the version available in bug 693671. The ubiquity installer problem is no longer happening - it ran without any exceptions. So this bug is no longer relevant.

Changed in ubiquity (Ubuntu):
