In the mail account, there's a button to create a new signature. But to EDIT one, I have to go to $HOME/.local/share/evolution/signature, find out what signature it actually is that I want to edit, and open in gedit (or other editor). For an HTML signature, it's quite a nuisance because you have to edit the source text, not something that e.g. my wife or my mother could do.

It would be more useful to have another button to edit the signatures directly in the evolution editor.

There is one ;)

Under Edit -> Preferences, click Composer Preferences, then go to the Signatures tab. There, you will have the list of signatures, and Add, Edit, Remove, etc. buttons. I checked both in standard and express mode... so if it's not there for you, there must be something else at play here :)

Perhaps, if you don't see the buttons, attach a screenshot to this bug so we can see what you see and better help you? Thanks in advance.

Oh, how true! I didn't see that.

Well, I actually didn't expect it there, too. Maybe it's just not too obvious. Wouldn't it make more sense to put it in the mail accounts section?

That part just allows you to select a signature or add a new one. You may still want to open a bug about this on the upstream tracker, by following the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status.
