Bug Description
I've used the packages below succesfully for some video related work.
The main video API for Linux - Video4Linux or V4L - does not support any FireWire devices. You have to use one of those cheap USB webcams, even if you own a camcorder with a much better lens and higher framerates.
Coriander is a tool to access FireWire cameras using the V4L API. Unfortunately, it works only with IIDC compatible cameras, not with camcorders.
DV4Linux is not as fancy as Coriander, but provides a similar functionality for camcorders.
With DV4Linux, you can finally use your V4L application with better cameras
DV4Linux provides two programs to access the camcorder. dv4lstart uses the LD_PRELOAD mechanism and works with most programs. dv4l uses the vloopback kernel module and might work better than dv4lstart in some cases. Most V4L applications run with both programs, some only with one of them. See here for details.
