Bug Description

Installed failure using apt-get dist-upgrade on Natty to upgrade to the new X stack.

This is an expected error. xserver is being held back from upgrading until the full set of drivers have rebuilt for the system. The issue is a temporary one while this building work is going on, lasting perhaps a day. It can take a bit longer for the builds to propagate out to the slower mirrors.

NOTE: You can't use -nvidia or -fglrx now. We have to wait for new updated versions of both drivers from NVIDIA and AMD that supports xserver 1.10. Until then, you need to have them uninstalled and use the open source drivers, -nouveau and -ati respectively.

Hi Mark (and reporters of dupes),

This is an expected (and good) thing. Since a new xserver went in yesterday, all the drivers needed rebuilt against the new ABI else they'd totally hose up your system. So while those builds were under way, xserver would refuse to install itself and give this error message.

By now the builds are done and propagated to most of the mirrors. (There might be some slower mirrors out there still working at it, but the main mirrors should be done).

Can you all re-update and re-upgrade and report here as you have success?

If you still have trouble upgrading, please paste in the error output.

yeah go ahead and use the -f option if it says to.

A couple of my systems showed that (I figure because I had some self-installed bits) and the upgrade went fine after.

briancb, -nvidia hasn't been updated to use the new xserver 1.10 yet, don't install it. (In fact, jockey should have prevented you from installing it to begin with...)

Please provide a full log of the apt call's output.

Also, check if you have any ppas installed.
E.g., `ls /etc/apt/sources.list.d/`

(In particular, xorg-edgers ppas can cause the above error - best to
remove xorg-edgers before upgrading!)
