Bug Description

acpi_cpufreq is used instead of speedstep-centrino.

speedstep-centrino is correctly loaded with 2.6.17 kernels

Very lacking in information. Please provide the output of dmesg (attach, do not paste into comment).

Also explain why this usage of acpi_cpufreq is wrong.

The problem is there are missing some steps with acpi_cpufreq (5 with acpi_cpufreq vs 8 with speedstep-centrino), I think this could cause an higher battery usage

Marked as a duplicate. Basically it needs the PHC patch for proper support, but read the referenced bug for the status of that.

i dont think that this bug is a duplicate of #63789 .

 - on my laptop only speedstep-centrino gets loaded on a clean edgy install
 - with 2.6.17 i only have two steps; with 2.6.18 (also without the phc patch) 4 or 5.

--> it has nothing todo with the phc patch imho
