Subject: /etc/sudoers is not removed on purge.

Package: sudo
Version: 1.6.7p5-1
Severity: normal

/etc/sudoers is created in the postinst, but it is not removed in the postrm
in the case of the package being purged.

This is a policy violation wrt. handling configuration files.

Not marked as serious as per. a request from Manoj.

That's not actually the right justification (it requires that config file
changes not be lost except on purge, *not* that config files are removed on
a purge). This is just a "perfect handling of config files" issue.

I don't personally feel this issue would be worth leaving sudo out of a stable
release over, but I certainly don't mind fixing it.

How is that interpreted as just the changes?

I think sudo should be in sarge too.

Is there any reason /etc/sudoers can't be added to the conffiles and the
default file created in the postinst just can't be the included default?

Scott.

Good point. The current approach was part of what I inherited from the
previous maintainer. I see no reason this can't change, the only caveat is
that the postinst should probably continue to try and ensure there's a sudoers
file present on upgrades since dpkg considers a removed conffile a reasonable
thing for a sys admin to want preserved and that's probably not right for sudo.

Yes, I forgot, the problem is that this would guarantee every sys admin gets
asked about whether they want to keep their sudoers content on every upgrade,
which seems inappropriate for a configuration file that is more or less
guaranteed to be edited by every sys admin from the Debian default...

I'll add a suitable postinst that does a remove of the file on purge and call
this one done.
