Default save file name is always the first in list

Bug Description

When saving a game the proposed filename is always the name of the first game in the list of saved games. It would be nice if this can be changed to be the name of the current game. If the current game is not a loaded one but a new one the filename field should be left blank. So it won't be possible to overwrite a different saved game by simply clicking Ok.

Hello fuchur and welcome to Launchpad! :)

You're right. For some reason the first filename is chosen when attempting to save a game (tried with Widelands bzr r5804). Your suggestion sounds reasonable, though I'm unsure if games actually remember if the have been loaded from an earlier save or not.
Another alternative could be to default to the name of the map currently played, or as you suggested, leave it blank. The latter might be the best option though, hopefully sometime in the future combined with the result of bug 565406.

So my suggestion for the wishlist:

- If the player begins a new game or map, NO savegame should be chosen and the player must define a name for it.

- If the player wants to save game again, the last choosen name should be the recommended for the savegame.

Just to illustrate the matter I attach a montage.

There has been another request (which I cannot find now)
to give some more info about a saved game -
such as world, tribe played, and AI behavior.

Having an empty slot at the top seems nice.

I'm a bit unsure if I interpreted the part about save game information right.
A) Always show information for the savegame AND current map at the same time, which I think would be confusing.
B) Show information for the savegame selected. If the empty slot is selected, current information is shown.

I first envisioned A when I read it, but have later realized you probably meant B. Though I wonder if instead of the current information, the fields should be left blank (---). If they are blank, it is clearer than no information is stored here yet, than if the current information is shown. I think it is much more consistent to use the fields to show "what is currently stored, which may be nothing", rather than "what is currently stored, unless it is the current info". In the latter case a player might be led to believe that the current information is stored in the empty slot.

Regarding the other request, the only one I found was bug 590528, which deals with replays, but I was certain there was a similar report about the load game menu.

Yes... B would be my favourite.
And you're right about the empty field.
All information that may appear here, is not needed anyhow for the game running. or can be
seen elsewhere, with the exception of the opponents' tribes and AI setting (if single player)
That would be nice to have underneath the colored flags in "general Statistic".

I won't probably forget all of this info as long as I play the current game, but I need to know when
I choose an older saved game to resume.
That is the idea.
