Have tried un-installing archive manager an d find this stops problem but on re-installation the problem has re-manifested itself though this was not immediate.

Thank you for your bug report. It seems you associated folders with file-roller (e.g. by right-clicking a folder and chosing "Open with"), unfortunately the "Remember this setting" option is activated by default (bug #662194).
To fix the issue, try:
1. Press Alt+F2 and enter "nautilus" to start the file manager
2. Right click on any folder and chose "Open with Other Application…"
3. Chose "File Browser"

Does this work for you?

I am having further problems with the dreaded Windows at the
present time. I will find time to check out your solution tomorrow and
get back to you.
