Bug Description

I am trying to dual boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.10 on ASUS N53Jq.
The sound on Windows 7 is fine. No sound on Ubuntu 10.10. No sound
with Sound Preferences-Hardware-Test Speakers. I was able to download
NVIDIA driver and get higher resolution display but no sound, before or
after. Tried both 32 and 64 bit versions.

If this is still not working on Ubuntu 11.04 "Natty Narwhal", there is a patch upstream in the recently released kernel 3.1-rc1 which might help:

commit b68785714b67079385188323631b05a8f9093675
Author: Kailang Yang
Date: Wed Jul 6 09:51:29 2011 +0200

ALSA: hda - Add Realtek ALC269VC codec support

Add the support of ALC269VC codec.
Also delete the unnecessary codec_variant type enum list:
now only three variants (ALC269VA ALC269VB ALC269VC) are needed.

    In addition, added some aliases:
     - Add ALC269VB alias name ALC277
     - Add ALC269VC alias name ALC259 ALC281X
     - Add ALC269VC for Lenovo device 0x21f3 name ALC3202

    Signed-off-by: Kailang Yang
    Signed-off-by: Takashi Iwai

Note the alias name ALC259.

A PPA of this kernel is available at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug report has not been filed about a specific package rather just about Ubuntu in general. Examining the contents of this report it seems that this bug is probably about alsa-driver. If this seems correct to you (you can get the package description by using the command 'apt-cache show alsa-driver') please change the affected package to that one by clicking the expander next to Ubuntu and filing in the Package text box. Additionally, if there are no log files included in this report it'd be helpful if you were to gather them using the command 'apport-collect 706128' in a terminal after you've assigned the bug to a package.

Same problem with audio in 11.04 in all applications. Iẃould like to send the results of the systemtets. But the systemtest crashed on audio, again on sleep test and on testreport. Report was visible on browser, but sending to Launchpad resulted in freeze of the systemtest. Saving the report in browser was not possible any more. A system restart is necessary for a new systemtest and/or report.
